Ray on Golem MVP Launch: the Best Way of Running Python Code on the Golem Network

We are happy to announce the release of the Ray on Golem MVP (Minimum Viable Product), an important milestone in the integration of Ray, the dynamic scaling framework for Python, with Golem's decentralized infrastructure. This version is ready for handling intensive computational tasks, while still being a tool of product validation, feedback gathering, and improvement. We are now looking for Beta Testers to move forward.

Since the initial mainnet release in January, we have found and overcame plenty of stability and UX challenges. At this moment our performance tests run for hundreds of minutes proving to us that the solution is ready to cater to the needs of the actual users.

About Ray and Ray on Golem

Ray itself is a rapidly evolving framework designed for a wide variety of Python workloads, now increasingly focused on AI/ML applications. It boasts extensive libraries, multiple integrations, and adoption by major corporations. For non-Ray users, Ray on Golem simplifies the parallelization of Python code, enabling it to run effortlessly on a decentralized cluster built of Golem providers. Users can manage their computational budget with an auto-scaling feature that efficiently allocates resources based on demand. This makes it the recommended SDK to execute Python workloads on Golem.

Features and Benefits

Ray on Golem already includes experimental GPU support, anticipating full compatibility once Golem's GPU offerings reach maturity. For existing Ray users, our platform reduces cluster setup times, eliminating the need for cloud provider accounts or configurations. The transition from local development to external deployment is seamless, extending your local machine's capabilities to a vast computational network. Needless to say, trying out your app on our free test network is a matter of 3-5 minutes of package downloading and starting up. The access to the main network requires only acquiring the funds which is now super easy thanks to the Golem Onboarding portal.

Future Directions

Looking ahead, our focus shifts toward fostering the creation of real applications that solve real-world problems. We invite innovators with ideas for useful Ray applications, as well as article writers eager to explore the potential of Ray on Golem, to join us. Our goals are to cultivate a vibrant Ray on Golem community and to build a compelling portfolio of use cases. This portfolio will demonstrate the platform's capability for significant projects and inspire global engagement.

The idea for Ray on Golem community is to create a space for developers to experiment with a vast number of Ray tools and examples, to generate new application ideas, and drive the evolution of the product. We are ready to support the newcomers and facilitate the creation of useful Ray on Golem applications.
